In the case of imports of certain products, a certificate certifying the conformity of the product with the essential requirements is required. The certificate received from the supplier should always be verified not only in terms of legal standards/acts, but besides by individuals. Notified bodies are organisations which are liable for carrying out the conformity assessment procedure, i.e. verification or product meets the standards. Check that the certificate number is in the database and that the entity is entitled to issue certificates for the provisions concerned. An extended database of notified bodies in the EU is NANDO. How to find a notified unit in the NANDO database?

Verification of CE and another certificates

CE certificate verification or any another conformity assessment is very important. It is crucial to verify whether the set of data is correct and the quality of the paper is unsuspecting. Even if the standards contained in the certificate are appropriate, but the issuing body is not entitled to do so in the European Union, the paper will be invalid. Consequently, the goods will not meet standards and will not be placed on the market, which generates costs. Therefore, the number of the EU control body in the NANDO database should be checked.

If you get a Chinese certificate (issued by a Chinese unit), you can find its number in the Chinese equivalent of NANDO, or National Accreditation Office CNAS.

What is NANDO?

NANDO Base (acron from New Approach Notified and Designed Organisations) includes bodies (notified) within the European Union and not only. The units included in the database are approved by the European Commission and may issue test reports, certificates and another papers on the Directives/Regulations concerned.

There are 4 types of units in the NANDO base.

NB — Notified body (Notified Body)
TAB — method Assessment Unit (Technical Assessment Body)
RTPO – recognised external organisation (Recognised third-party organization)
UI — User Inspectorate (User inspectorate).

Is NANDO free?

Use of NANDO is free of charge and does not require registration. The strategy is available in English.

Searching for a unit in the country of registration

You can find notified bodies in the NANDO database in the country of registration. After entering Official website just choose ‘Country” from the side panel and choice an interesting country from the list. Here. you can review the list of notified bodies in Poland.

Searching for a unit after adjustment

Notified bodies shall carry out conformity assessments with certain Directives/Regulations. There are bodies that specialise in verifying products according to circumstantial legislation, but besides those that carry out conformity assessments under a number of legal acts. In any cases, sister individuals in different countries complement each other.

To search for conformity assessment bodies under certain Directives/Regulations, choice "Legislation” from the side panel, followed by the applicable legal act from the list.

How to find a notified unit in the NANDO database?

The notified unit can be found in NANDO in 2 ways.

Search by Number/Name

Selecting the option ‘Body” you can find the unit by its number, name or type.

Selecting in the side panel “Free search‘in the NANDO strategy you can search for a unit according to:

Searching for NANDO product assessment units – example

Suppose we are looking for a notified body to verify compliance with essential concrete reinforcement requirements. This armament is classified as a construction product in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council. We are curious in PN-EN ISO 14889.

How to search for a product in NANDO without a standard?

Don't you know the standard for your product? It's okay to find a notified body. To find standards relating to your product and conformity assessment bodies:

Enter the option “Legislation“ and choice the applicable legal act relating to your product (in the above example No 305/2011).
Under the heading ‘Product familySearch your product and click “Search” — For armor it will be Products related to concrete, mortar and group – Fibres).
Select a notified body from the list and contact it.
