

Why is that important?
Bangkok rules are the first UN paper to set standards of treatment for women in prison. In Poland, where the number of women imprisoned has increased, cognition of these principles is limited. The RPO stresses the request to educate prison staff and judicial authorities.
What are the UN's recommendations?
UN and European reports item the request to implement the Bangkok Rules, taking into account the circumstantial needs of women in prisons. They recommend, among others, the separation of women from men and the provision of gender-adjusted medical care.
What about the Bangkok Rules?
The RPO asks that the Rules be included in training for officials and employees of the judicial institution. It besides stresses the function of cooperation with NGOs to disseminate cognition of the Rules.
What is the position of the Justice Ministry?
Deputy Minister of Justice Maria Ejchart replied that MS has translated the Rules and will take action to disseminate them. The Polish version of the paper was submitted to the RPO for usage in the business.
