The “Border Symbol” will join the swastika. It's harder to get citizenship

On Monday, president Karol Nawrocki informed of the signing of 5 bills filed in his cabinet. He besides revealed that another 3 had vetoed. The approved legal acts included, among others, 2 novels concerning the Teacher's Charter, and, on the side of the rejected projects, the relaxation of penalties for taxation offences and the law on assistance to Ukrainian citizens. The president pointed to the urgent request to regulate relations with our east neighbour – among others, by getting free of Russian propaganda and aligning the "bander symbol" with Nazi and symbols of another totalitarian regimes.

Karol Nawrocki signed 2 amendments to the Teacher's Charter, a fresh of the Bank Law Act and the Act on the retention of Natural Fertilisers.

However, more attention was drawn to projects which were rejected by the Presidential Palace. The president vetoed 3 laws in full – including the Act on Assistance to Ukrainian Citizens. "The law on assistance to Ukrainian citizens does not make this adjustment, which was the subject of a public debate. I will not change my opinion and I believe that 800 plus should belong only to those Ukrainians who make efforts to work in Poland" - said Karol Nawrocki.

There was more in Ukraine's Monday communication, due to the fact that the president announced that his task would include the penalisation of the "Border symbol", which will be compared in the Criminal Code with swastika.

"In order to destruct Russian propaganda and set up Polish-Ukrainian relations on real partnership and common respect, common sensitivity, I believe that we should include in the bill a clear slogan: a halt to flagism and in the penal code align the flag symbol with symbols that correspond to German national socialism commonly called Nazism, russian communism and make corrections in the Act on the Institute of National Memory – the Commission for the Investigation of Crimes Against the Polish Nation in relation to the crimes of the CNS-UPA", announced the president of Poland.

The presidential task will besides include provisions amending the conditions for obtaining Polish citizenship. According to the proposal of the Presidential Palace, foreigners who live in Poland for at least 10 years (now 3 years) could apply for a Polish passport. The penalties for illegally crossing the border would besides be increased to 5 years in prison.
