"Asian NATO" - Unreal thought or consequence to needs?

The fresh Prime Minister of Japan has late raised the subject of "Asian NATO". This immediately sparked a reaction from China that criticized attempts to discuss specified an undertaking. They took this as another component of the US's aggressive policy and their allies in the Pacific.
