Australia has prepared a alleged short list of bidders for the multi-tasking, heavy armed but lightweight GFP frigate (General intent Frigate) program, which are to replace the fleet of ageing Anzac frigates in the future. The exchange program for these ships, which is due to start in the second half of this decade, will cost up to about $11 billion. By choosing a ‘short list’, the offers offered by the Spanish shipyards (Navantia) and South Korean shipyards (Hanwha Ocean and Hyundai dense Industries) were rejected, while the projects offered by the German shipbuilding company tkMS (thyssenkrupp Marine Systems) and the nipponese MHI (Matsubish dense Industries) were left behind.
