Australia and China clash on the seas

In the first half of February 2025 on the South China Sea, China's J-16 multitasking aircraft approached the Australian marine patrol aircraft P-8A Poseidon and dropped flares about 30 metres from it. The Australian Ministry of Defence criticised these actions, and Minister Richard Marles said that bringing in the operation of the Chinese aircraft was “dangerous and unprofessional.
