I read an interesting book about Angela Merkel. I erstwhile had sympathy for her (finally, it was a physicist by education!), but many wise German friends told not very flattering things about her.
Her decision to shut down the atomic power plant was overturned by her bitterness. It was a step not just for Germany, but for all Europe.
In Arkadius Stempin's book there is simply a chapter on possible ties between the Empress of Europe (this is the title of the book) and Stasi before 1989. There's quite a few evidence that it did, but Stasi's papers don't show anything, which in itself is rather strange. Russia's interference in the closure of atomic power plants in Germany is very likely to have cooperated or not.
Of course, apart from the Chancellor, various green movements financed mostly by Moscow contributed to this. Either way, the closure of atomic power plants in Germany only gained Putin weakening Europe. Well, possibly not just Putin, but Xi, due to the fact that all photovoltaics and much of the windmills come from China.
