On the anniversary of the liberation of KL Dachau in 1945. – On 29 April the Church in our country celebrates the Day of Martyrdom of the Polish clergy. all 5th diocesan priest in Poland was murdered!

Dachau

W Dachau were imprisoned citizens of 37 nationalities, including a large group of clergymen, among them 95% were Catholic priests. Most Poles – 1777, in second place Germany – over 400 and in 3rd French – over 50. A large part of the clergy were nuns; most of them were Jesuits: 70 fathers and brothers, 45 of whom survived and 23 died. Many verbists and capuchins were besides killed in Dachau.

"The prisoners were forced to work in a cathartic way, hungry, humiliated, subjected to pseudomedical experiments, they were taken distant from what they had, even names, replacing them with numbers and making them usage them" – Dr. Zielińska during the conference "Dachau – German concentration camp at the place of martyrology of the Polish clergy (1939–1945)" – 15 April 2015 at the Janusz Kurtyka Educational Centre "Stop of History" of the Institute of National Memory in Warsaw. It took place on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the camp on 29 April, in which 868 Polish priests and monks were murdered.

Among Polish monks, the most of the Jesuits died – 10, then Salesians – 7 and missionaries – 5. In full 60 fathers belonging to different orders died. A full of 116 monks were saved, including 13 Capuchins and 12 Salesians. In total, there were 185 priests imprisoned in Dachau, belonging to 25 spiritual assemblies.
