In an open letter, many actors, musicians and media people call on Chancellor Merz to halt arms supplies for Israel. Now there's more.

More than 160 consecutive actors, musicians and media representatives joined the appeal to suspend supplies of German weapons to Israel. According to Avaaz, who publishes this appeal, 162 fresh signatories included musicians Nina Chuba and Clueso, manager Fatih Akin, Israeli Golden Globe winner Ari Folman, and actor Sandra Hüller.

The letter has already been published last Thursday, with well-known people calling on Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) to halt arms supply and impose further sanctions. "We besides powerfully condemn the horrifying crimes of Hamas. But no crime legitimizes the collective punishment of millions of innocent people in the most brutal way," we read.

"In fresh days you have taken a position and criticised the government of Israel. We appreciate that, but 1 thing is clear: words alone don't save lives. That is why we are writing to you present with an urgent request that action be followed: halt immediately any export of German weapons to Israel, support the suspension of the EU-Israel Association Agreement, put force on immediate ceasefire and free access to humanitarian aid" - is set out in the appeal.

A full of 367 people of culture and celebrities

By Wednesday morning, a full of 367 celebrities signed the appeal. The first signatories included Ski Aggu musician, actor Katharina Thalbach and tv presenters Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf.

With respect to the current situation in the Gaza Strip, the letter's initiators besides criticised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's announcement of the business of the full Gaza Strip. Israeli media reported it. "Mr Merz, you are 1 of the fewer who can persuade Israel to change course," we read at the end of the letter. “Do you have the courage to do this?”
