Mass protests in Israel
According to the BBC, the protesters are, among others, families of 50 hostages held in the Gaza Strip, of whom 20 are inactive alive. They fear that the government's plan puts their loved ones in grave danger and call for their immediate release.
However, Israeli leaders reject their concerns and criticism. Prime Minister Beniamin Netanyahu assures that the government's actions are aimed primarily at releasing hostages.
One protestor who attended a Saturday rally in Jerusalem said in a conversation with the BBC: "We want the war to end due to the fact that our hostages are dying there and we request everyone to come home."
He besides added, "Whatever it takes to do, we gotta do it. And if we gotta halt the war, we will halt the war."
Thousands on the streets of Israel
The paper "The Times of Israel" reports that protesters soldiers and hostage families have gathered in front of the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) office in Tel Aviv, calling on another soldiers to refuse to participate in the planned expanded military operation.
The parent of 1 of the hostages called for a general strike in Israel, and opposition leader Jair Lapid considered specified a decision to be "reasonable and worthy." However, the country's main trade union announced that it would not support the strike.
Prime Minister Netanyahu besides met with opposition from the Army chief of staff, General Eyal Zamir, who warned that the full business of the Gaza Strip could be a "trap" and would increase the hazard to hostages.
