Old russian engines will be replaced for fresh German production. The ship will besides benefit from modern power generators and switchboards. Soon, the Orp “Wigry” will be sent to the PGZ of the War Shipyard, where it will be thoroughly upgraded. It's the 5th unit of task 207 that's going to go through akin metamorphosis.

The contract for the modernisation of the OORP “Wigry” and “Wide” vessels was concluded a fewer days ago. It was signed by representatives of the War Port Command in Świnoujście and PGZ War Shipyard in Gdynia. It includes refurbishment of 207 plan units, which service regular in the 12th Trolley Squadron of 8 Coast Defence Fleets. “For us, this is another step in strengthening the position of PGZ Shipyard as a key partner of the Polish Navy,” says Marcin Ryngwelski, president of the Gdynia company. “We are pleased that one more time we can carry out a task that ensures the advanced efficiency of Polish maritime forces and thus contribute to strengthening the defence possible of our country.

To the shipyard, among another things ORP “Vigry”. Professionals will dismantle old engines (yet russian construction). MTU drive systems will be installed in Germany. The ship will besides gain a fresh power plant with power generators, main distribution boards and ship automation.

RECLAMA

Modernizing the another unit won't be that deep. The ORP “Team” will get fresh compressors and the cooling strategy will be improved with sea water. However, it must be remembered that a metamorphosis akin to that which will shortly become part of the ORP “Wigry” has already passed 5 years ago. – The ORP “Teams” was the first trawler to be equipped with fresh engines. After 5 years of operation, it was time to repair the average. This is an average procedure resulting from the operational papers – says Kmdr Lt. Sławomir Góra, commander of the 12th Tralowers Division. Any modification is simply a derivative of the conclusions which have arisen during the five-year period of use.

The 2019 modernization of the ORP “Teams” was the start of a larger project. Since then, 3 another 207 task trawlers have been able to buy fresh engines and power generators: ORP “Nakło” and “Necko” from the 12th Division, as well as the ORP “Mama” from the 13th Tray Squadron. Kmdr Lt. Mount admits that thanks to these works ships gain fresh life. – fresh engines made ships more economical and little emergency and thus cheaper to operate. If necessary, spare parts are easier – he calculates. Units are developing a velocity up to the 15th century, and that means they are about 2 knots faster than before. Additionally, the engines work quieter, which provides the crew with greater comfort of service. Above all, however, modernisation has importantly extended the mark operating standards. For Russian mechanisms, it was 9 000 mtg. After that time the engines had to be replaced. MTU engines can run over 36,000 mtg.

The importance of fresh solutions was best learned by ORP sailors "Teams". Last summer, a six-year ship joined SNMCMG1. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . He took part in patrolling key shipping routes in the Baltic and in respective global exercises. At the same time, it was part of NATO's consequence Force. The mission was besides attended by another trawler – ORP "Hancza". – It does not have MTU engines, but earlier, as well as the ORP “Teams”, it was retrofitted with submarines Ukwiał and Sillyak – points out Kmdr. Gora. Units of this class have never served in SNMCMG1 before. However, as the sailors agree, they have confirmed their usefulness.

Poland is 1 of the fewer NATO countries with trawlers. The Navy has as many as 17 units of task 207. He tries to gradually increase their abilities. The trawlers are intended to complement modern mine destroyers Cormoran II. Three specified units already service in the naval forces. They are part of the 13th Tray Squadron. 3 more are under construction. In the coming years they will power 12 Squadron.
