The tragedy of families, internment, killing (the number of victims is inactive unknown and hard to estimate), the suffering of the full nation. Today, 42 years have passed since the day erstwhile Wojciech Jaruzelski - allegedly afraid of russian intervention in Poland - introduced martial law throughout the country.

On this occasion, the IPN organises one more time the "Light of Liberty" action - on 13 December at 7:30 p.m. in the windows of houses, but besides schools and institutions will ignite candles commemorating the victims of this tragic time. In the action, which is sponsored by president Andrzej Duda, each of us can participate by setting a candle in the window or virtually on the website Light Freedom.ipn.gov.pl. Archbishop Celestino Migliore, Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, Archbishop Stanislaw Gądecki, president of the Polish Episcopal Conference and Archbishop Metropolitan of Gnieźno Primate of Poland Wojciech Polak besides announced the participation.
The run refers to the motion that people surviving in the free world, including John Paul II in the Vatican, performed in solidarity with Poles on Christmas Eve 1981. The action was besides joined by US president Ronald Reagan, who then said: "Poles were betrayed by their own government. Those who regulation them, and their totalitarian allies, fear the freedom which Poles loved so much. Let the flame of millions of candles in American homes attest that the light of freedom will not be put outIt’s okay. ”
