The kid was born in the immediate vicinity of God, inside the church, in front of the altar itself. But this miracle of birth was brutally desecrated. The Ukrainian SS crushed a baby with a shoe.
Tryzub with sword
The Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (CNS) established cooperation with the 3rd Reich peculiar Services long before September 1939. She then marked her part in the demolition of the Republic, putting together the Wehrmacht of the Ukrainian Legion and diversionary militias.
In 1940, the organization was divided. Distorted leaders – Andrij Melnyk and Stepan Bandera They headed separate factions: CNS-M (melnycoves) and CNS-B (Banders, besides called the revolutionary faction). erstwhile CNS emblem – trizub with the mediate blade formed into the form of a sword – she retained the CNS-M. Her rivals began performing under the red-black flag referring to the German-Nazi thought Blut und Boden (Blood and Earth). Both factions besides liked to usage blue-yellow emblems.
The cooperation of both factions with Germany continued at its best. Idylla wavered in the summertime of 1941. Unagreed with Berlin, the proclamation of Ukrainian independency resulted in a serious tension. Bandera, and then Melnyk were interned and sent to the concentration camp in Sachsenhausen (but calling them "prisoners of the cacet" would be a mockery of the actual victims of this camp – both leaders were placed in a peculiar ward, where they were assigned apartments equipped with furniture and carpets; they sat in the SS canteen, had the right to meet with loved ones and correspondence).
Both CNS factions did not neglect to operate. The Banderers officially broke up with the Germans, going down to the underground (although discreet cooperation at any levels was maintained). They established their own armed force – the Ukrainian Insurgency Army (UPA), which started a terrible genocide of the Polish population in Volyn and east Małopolska.
OUN-M, after first fluctuations, joined the creation of police and military units alongside the 3rd Reich. 1 of them was subordinate to the German political police Legion Volynski (a.k.a. Ukrainian Legion of Self-defence, in the German nomenclature 31. Schutzmannschafts-Bataillon der SD). The formation was celebrated for the pacifications of Polish villages in Volyn and Lublin. In September 1944, she was assigned to forces suppressing the Warsaw Uprising. Subsequently, the Legion took part in the fight against guerrillas in Slovenia to yet be incorporated into Ukrainian 14. SS Division. This second formation was without comparison larger, and its anti-Polish achievements were even more bloody.
‘Galician’ SS
The creation of Ukrainian SS troops was sponsored by the OUN-M together with the Ukrainian Central Committee operating in Krakow. In April 1943, the Germans agreed to form an individual in the Galician name, appearing under the sign of a yellow lion and 3 golden crowns in a blue field. Within a month, as many as 82,000 Ukrainians entered the fresh formation!
Five SS police regiments (numbers 4 to 8) were initially created from volunteers. Galizische SS Freiwillige Regimenten. They were utilized for anti-partisan and pacification actions, including Volyn, Lublin and Podol. The front division was then formed – it appeared under respective names, like the 14th Volunteer SS Division “Galicia” or 14th. The Waffen SS Grenadier Division, to announce the 1st Ukrainian Division 2 weeks before the end of the war.
The Ukrainian SS, specified as the military, took the word SS ‘Galizen’ be SS ‘Hałaczyna’.
There was a village here once...
Huta Pieniacka (Brody County, Tarnopolskie Voivodeship) was a small, quiet saddle. All 172 houses, just before the war inhabited by little than 800 people. Then the inhabitants arrived; Polish refugees were brought here, primarily from Volyn slaughtered by banders. There were besides Jews seeking refuge from German genocide. any said terrible things. The correct relations with the surrounding Ukrainians began to break down so far, the east Małopolska was besides on fire. There was besides a russian partisan in the area, but they tried to keep a good relation with her.
In Pieniacka Huta, self-defense was created, connected with the underground National Army. On February 13, 1944, she clashed armedly with a group of attackers, as thought, with the uppers. In fact, it was a patrol from the 4th SS Police Regiment "Galizen". 2 SS men were dead, the remainder escaped. They were about to return more soon.
At 6:00 a.m. on February 28, 1944, signal rockets flared over the Pieniacka Huta. Immediately after that, officers from the 4th SS regiment “Galizen” went to attack from all sides. There were five, possibly six hundred, a good battalion, under the command of a German captain. Intriguing that they were supported by a rival UPA militia. There was besides a deficiency of the Ukrainian peasantry, armed with knives and axe.
A fewer hours earlier, AK interviewed the local self-defense community about hostile intentions. It was recommended not to resist, hide the weapon. Uninvited guests were expected to execute a regular search, as they did in another surrounding villages.
Meanwhile, since the first minutes of action, the village has been under dense fire. Shortly thereafter, armed forces entered the buildings. Residents were driven out of their homes, leading them to congregational points in the church and school. The escapees were shot without pardon.
The attackers seemed to have any insight. They immediately tracked the shelters of the hiding Jews and of the wounded russian guerrillas. Found dead on the scene along with their families. The commander of self-defence and another host were beaten, then poured gasoline and burned.
Among the inhabitants of the church and school, individuals were called up. They were then tortured and killed. The cruelty of the attackers was shocking. Many people were slaughtered with knives. Seventy-year-old Rosalia Chief of the torturer ripped his belly open with bayonet. 1 newborn was shattered by being hit against a wall.
“There were terrible scenes in the church – recalled Sulimir Stanisław Żuk. – [...] The female began giving birth at the altar, and the bandit in the SS uniform approached her, snatched her baby, threw her on the church floor, and trampled her with a chained shoe. My grandmother, a 70-year-old female threw herself at him with her fists, he took the vending device off her arm and shot them both. Then he chose a teenage girl from the crowd and ordered her to throw the body of this kid out of the church. She wrapped them in liturgical robes, which were already scattered over the level and lifted them from the church, she baptized him, and then laid them in the snow...’.
Around 2:00 p.m., residents began to be moved out of the church and school, in groups of 30 to 50. They were told they would survive. They were then locked in barns and another wooden buildings that were set on fire. The surviving witnesses were especially remembered by 2 small, possibly five-year-old children trapped in a burning barn, screaming with despair:
Mommy, take us...!
On the blood trail
Accompanying police Ukrainian civilians eagerly took advantage of the opportunity, looting abandoned houses, loading the acquired goods into the brought underwaters. Then almost the full village went up in smoke. Returning from the action, the SS were fed by the Ukrainian people around, even a triumphal gate was erected in close Peniaki.
There's no way to know how many people have been killed. After a fewer days, the Lviv press reported 868 deaths. any estimates rise that to 1,000 or even 1,500 victims. It was most likely the largest slaughter performed by Ukrainian nationalists throughout east Małopolska. It is simply a wonder that 160 people survived the massacre, including many wounded and burned. The most survivors were protected in the church basement and on the tower, besides in school cellars.
The Pieniacka Huta is 1 of respective 1000 towns leveled by Ukrainian chauvinists. There were certain features in this crime. It is appropriate to item the compatible cooperation in the melnykovian SS “Galizen” and the banner UPA. In the following months, Galician SS troops have committed crimes against Poles in Chodaczków Wielki (862), Podkań (600), Palikrovy (365), Smoligów (300), Maleniska (40), Pańkovce (30) and many another places.
In the first half of 1944, all police regiments of SS “Galizen” were disbanded, and their staff were incorporated into the mentioned front division “Halyczyn”. Separated branches of this operational union besides participated in anti-partisan and repressive actions. In total, Polish historians discovered at least a fewer twelve localities where police officers or SS soldiers “Galizen” committed war crimes; in each of them respective to respective 100 people were murdered.
In July, the “Halyca” Division, sent against the Red Army, suffered a severe defeat under the Brodami, losing 7,000 soldiers; respective 100 others deserted and moved to UPA. The population was supplemented by another Ukrainian formations and accepting ants of further volunteers. The SS “Galizien” inactive fought in Slovakia to suppress the uprising there, in Yugoslavia and Austria, in order to yet lay down their weapons to the British and Americans in May 1945.
The Time of the Rabblers
Ukrainian SS escaped deportation to the ZSRS. The chauvinists who hated Poland abruptly remembered that in the past they were citizens of the Republic! The General’s intercession is besides a reason for their endurance Władysław Anders, Commander of the 2nd Polish Corps to be persuaded Black-printed peacocks (in the inter-war Ukrainian contract officer in the Polish Army, which headed the “Galizen” Division in the last days of planet War II).
Not everyone's convinced. After all, Ukrainians from the SS in November 1939 were "gifted" russian citizenship. And after the war, the Western Allies gave Stalin hundreds of thousands of people without scruples, not only citizens of the Radiant Country, but even representatives of the “old” (revolutionary) Russian emigration, who were never russian citizens! Anders' real political influences in the Allies were negligible. The West would not compromise its relations with Stalin due to the opinion of any Polish general.
It appears that the British and American services have spread a protective umbrella over Ukrainian nationalists' environments, as they have seen in them the possible to exploit in the coming large steps of the Cold War. In the close future, activists of both CNS factions will form the backbone of the Ukrainian agency at the Anglo-Saxon pay.
Tombs and horners
In present-day Ukraine, the SS “Galizien” gained dedicated worshippers. It has its streets in Tarnopol and Stanisławów (Vulgo Ivano-Frankivsk). There are monuments (including a monument profaning the Łychakowski Cemetery close the memorial site of the Lviv Orlęts), anniversary marches in Kiev and Lviv, the academies of “for worship”... In 2022 the ultimate Court of Ukraine ruled that the symbols of the SS “Halyczyn” “are not Nazi symbols”. A year earlier, a veteran of the Division was buried in Kiev with state honors, in the presence of a delegated presidential typical company.
Only in February 2026, after many years of Polish efforts, the Ukrainian authorities agreed to undertake exploration and exhumation work in Huta Pieniacka. The statue of the victims was repeatedly desecrated. Ukrainian authors, called historians, attempted to delegate full work for the slaughter of Germans, or to deny crimes at all.
What can we say about the cult of murderers beyond our east border, since in our country they besides have clustered. Here and there you can read the curiosity statements that the Ukrainians, who in the 4th and 5th years of the war enlisted in the SS, “did not realize” the crime of this formation, or that they entered it by mistake—because they explained to themselves, the blind, abbreviation of the SS as... The Sitch shooters (!).
The organisational discrimination between the Galician police regiments and the Division is being stressed (this is why the second is not to be held liable for, for example, Huta Pieniacka). But since after the police regiments were disbanded, their personnel were incarnate to the Division, people were mostly the same.
‘Disview of SS 'Galizien' did not have anything in common with PARSHAW’ – that's how, in capital letters, shouts the text of 1 of the Facebook “scientists”. I think she did. Within the ranks Kampfgruppe Reinefarth A ten-man group of SS officers “Halyczyna” served; 1 of them died during the fighting. There were most likely others – on the essman killed in the conflict of Reduta Wawelska were found papers confirming his affiliation with the SS “Galizien”. Finally, as I mentioned, after the Uprising, the Legion of Volyński, "deserved" was incorporated into the "Halyczynka" Division, including Warsaw and Kampinoska Forest.
English - speaking Wikipedia explains: “There are besides charges of being committed by 14 while in Slovakia. The SS division of war crimes, however, is not documented (accredited crimes may be the work of another individuals). The Ukrainians were only proven to have shot respective people in Lower Boćy.”
Really? What about burnt Smrecans, Quakers and Bodins? What about the killings of civilians in Plešivej and Radoštka, the torture in Old Bystrica? Raspberries, Kardošova Vieski, Sádočnégo, Veľkej Bytči? And cooperation in this area with the German safety police, including the notorious Einsatzgruppe H...?
Polish blood, Polish shame
In September 2023, in the Canadian home of Commons, in the presence of the Kiev president Zelenski Volodymyra erstwhile SS soldier “Galisien” was honored Jarosław Hunka as a "Ukrainian-Canadian planet War II veteran who fought for Ukrainian independency with Russians". erstwhile the press revealed the Essmanic past of the venerable Jubilee, a scandal broke out.
Five months earlier, over the Vistula River, there was no scandal erstwhile Volodymyr Zelenski accepted the highest Polish distinction, the Order of the White Eagle, in a sweatshirt decorated with a sweatshirt already known to us trizub with sword – a emblem popularized by the CNS, then the CNS-M. Zelenski was applauded by politicians, journalists and average Poles. The arrogant nation erstwhile humbly surrendered to the heart and head pathology imposed on us by abroad embassy.
Only a fewer asked – what precisely did Zelenski get the most crucial Polish Order?
Someone willing to think that a discrimination was given to him for all the acts committed by the men of the sign trizuba with sword. For being shot from behind the coals before the war and in the September campaign. To slaughtered Polish villages. For Warsaw burned with the participation of Mennik Rezuń. And for that kid from the Pieniacka Huta, crushed by the boot of the Ukrainian SS.
"A nation that has lost its memory loses its conscience," said the poet. Blood on their hands isn't just a hangover. besides their horners.
