Andrzej Poczobut in Washington: Freedom connects Poland and America

The arrival of Pochobut met with a very warm reception – the participants welcomed him standing ovation.

During his speech Pochobut pointed out the values that unite Poles and Americans. Among them, he mentioned first of all attachment to freedom, identifying them as an crucial component of Polish identity, independent of the place of residence.

I wouldn't be here if it weren't for the Polish-American alliance, had it not been for the joint actions of president Trump's administration and representatives of the Polish state that led to my release – said Pochobut.

He besides referred to the current situation in Belarus. In his opinion, this is very close to a complete transition to the totalitarian system. At the same time, he expressed his belief that joint actions could contribute to expanding freedom in Belarus and improving the situation of the Polish minority.

Trump's Words

Donald Trump attended the ceremony, who directed a message to the audience in the form of a recording. The American president recalled the importance of Poles to the past of the United States, pointing, among another things, to generals Kazimierz Pulaski and Tadeusz Kościuszko. He emphasized that people of Polish origin have participated in defending the freedom of the US since the American War of Independence.

Trump besides thanked Polish representatives for their support in the election and one more time spoke positively about president Karol Nawrocki.

Meeting with John Coale

The pochobut has been in the United States since Wednesday. During the visit, he had meetings with members of legislature and John Coale, peculiar envoy of Donald Trump, who participated in negotiations on his release.

In general, you gotta fight for your rights in life. In my opinion democracy is more stable, despite all the problems we know than authoritarianism – explained Pochobut during the meeting.

Referring to the past of populist and anti-democratic movements, he pointed out that although they could gain broad public support, they frequently lose it comparatively quickly.
