"There is no strong Europe without the US and NATO, just as there is no strong NATO without a committed Europe," quotes Euronews portal. "During my last visit to NATO Headquarters, I made an authoritative request to NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte that the issue of expanding defence spending to a minimum of 3% of GDP by all NATO members should be raised at the upcoming Hague Summit," Duda recalled in his letter.
"We no longer have time to discuss. We request a decision. We must act now," he stressed. In his letter, the president besides pointed out a leap in Poland's defence spending, which, as he pointed out, should be seen not only as a recipient but besides as a safety donor.
According to Euronews portal, Duda, "who, as 1 of the fewer European politicians, maintains good relations with US president Donald Trump and his administration, has made it clear that he believes the US is inactive a pillar of NATO". "The United States has been and continues to be the natural leader of the alliance," wrote the Polish president quoted by the portal.
The task of expanding defence spending by all NATO states Duda presented before the NATO summit in Washington in 2024. As he emphasized, he besides introduced him to Trump, with whom he met in April 2024 before he inactive won the presidential election.
