Last Monday, the US announced that only 18 allied countries, including 10 EU countries, can proceed to buy AI chips without restrictions. Europe relies heavy on US based companies, specified as the world's leading Nvidia integrated circuit designer. Poland does not belong to this group and therefore, erstwhile it comes to buying AI chips, it is subject to quantitative restrictions.
On the website of the Chancellery of the president of Poland, a fragment of Andrzej Duda's conversation with the American Fox Business station appeared on Friday. In the conversation, the president estimated that Biden's decision on AI chips was disappointing, excluding Poland from the most privileged countries.
Duda: We're in second basket
Duda stressed that last year's parliamentary elections in Poland were won by Liberal parties led by Donald Tusk, who have close links with American democrats. “However, Joe Biden’s administration made that decision,” he added.
— We are not among the closest allies, we are in the second basket of countries that are not considered the most friendly and safe, the most trusted by the US. My individual opinion is that it will harm Poland – the president assessed.
He besides noted that he was waiting for the continuation of " Donald Trump's very clear policy, which he presented during his first word of office". He added that he himself looked calmly at changes in the American administration.
Duda said that he had already talked to Trump many times, and after his last April gathering in fresh York, he knows what his expectations are and how the president of the United States wants to change relations between the European Union and the United States.
— With Donald Trump back in power, we see in Europe the mobilisation of those groups that feel fear, associated with rivalry with the United States. On the another hand, it is simply a fear that the president of the United States will not support those groups that have dominated Europe so far," Duda pointed out.
Donald Trump, who was sworn in as the 47th U.S. president on Monday, signed executive regulations on Thursday on "US dominance in artificial intelligence" and the elimination of barriers to AI improvement and cryptocurrency. The paper requires Trump squad to prepare a plan to guarantee "AI systems that are free from ideological prejudices or social agendas".
