FORT WORTH– American Airlines (AA) is set to upgrade aircraft on its Tokyo/Haneda (HND) routes to Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and Los Angeles (LAX) starting March 29, 2026.

The Tokyo/Haneda–Dallas/Fort Worth service will switch to the Boeing 777-300ER, while the Tokyo/Haneda–Los Angeles flights will operate with the Boeing 777-200. This marks a shift from the current Boeing 787s and will increase the number of premium seats by 45%.

American Airlines Deploys 777 to Tokyo

American Airlines’ decision to deploy larger aircraft on these transpacific routes reflects a strategic move to meet growing demand for premium travel between Japan and the United States.

The Boeing 777-300ER offers eight Flagship First suites and 52 lie-flat Flagship Business seats, along with enhanced premium economy and main cabin capacity.

The 777-200, while smaller, still offers a significant boost in premium seating compared to the 787-8 currently serving the Los Angeles route.

Aircraft Type Route Flagship First Flagship Business Premium Economy Main Cabin Extra Main Cabin Total Seats
Boeing 777-300ER Tokyo/Haneda – Dallas/Fort Worth 8 52 28 28 188 304
Boeing 777-200 Tokyo/Haneda – Los Angeles 37 24 66 146 273

The change is expected to benefit both business and leisure travelers, offering more options for lie-flat seating, upgraded in-flight amenities, and improved cargo capacity.

The shift also aligns with broader network adjustments to optimize fleet use across American Airlines’ long-haul schedule.

New International Routes for Summer 2025

American Airlines (AA) is expanding its transatlantic and South American network for summer 2026, unveiling six new routes and extended services. The airline will introduce flights to Prague (PRG) and launch the only nonstop connection from the United States to Budapest, Hungary (BUD).

The expansion also adds new flights to Athens, Greece (ATH), Milan, Italy (MXP), and Zurich, Switzerland (ZRH), along with extended summer service to Buenos Aires, Argentina (EZE). These routes will connect through key hubs including Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), Miami (MIA), and Philadelphia (PHL), with tickets available starting August 11, 2025.

American Airlines will begin service from Philadelphia (PHL) to Budapest (BUD) and Prague (PRG) on May 21, 2026. Both routes will operate daily during the summer season on Boeing 787-8 aircraft. The new destinations expand PHL’s role as a gateway to Europe, with 19 transatlantic destinations planned from the hub in 2026.

Passengers can take advantage of the airline’s new Flagship® and Admirals Club® lounges in PHL before departure. Flagship® Lounge guests can enjoy premium dining, champagne, and runway views, while Admirals Club® visitors have access to specialty coffee, self-serve offerings, and a full-service bar.

Travelers aiming to visit both Budapest and Prague can easily book an open-jaw itinerary, flying into one city and returning from the other, making multi-city European trips more convenient.
