The U.S. Ambassador praises Kosiniak-Kamish. "The country stands above politics"
United States Ambassador to Poland Tom Rose praised Deputy Prime Minister and National Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamisha for his contribution to the improvement of Polish-American military cooperation. The American diplomat besides stressed that the head of the MON could cooperate with president Karol Nawrocki despite political differences.
Rose published an entry on the X portal, in which he presented Kosiniaka-Kamisha as 1 of the key architects for strengthening defence cooperation between Warsaw and Washington.
"Historic advancement in the defence partnership between the United States and Poland has many contributors, but no 1 has played as crucial a function as Deputy Prime Minister and National Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamish" wrote the Ambassador.
According to the American diplomat, the engagement of the head of the MON contributes to further strengthening military relations between the 2 countries.
"His unwavering commitment to Poland's safety brings our military cooperation to a fresh level," Rose stressed.
The ambassador besides referred to the name of the Polish minister, admitting that his pronunciation makes the Americans difficult. For this reason Kosiniak-Kamish gained the nickname "K2" among them.
"The only problem we have with this wonderful man is to pronounce his highly hard name. That is why for us it is simply “K2”. For K2 the country stands above politics, work above divisions, and results above rhetoric," wrote the diplomat.
Rose besides pointed out the cooperation of the Minister of Defence with president Karol Nawrocki. In his opinion, Kosiniak-Kamysz is able to separate political differences from issues related to national security.
"He is loyal to his government, while working closely with president Karol Nawrocki. It never allows political differences to interfere with the common mission of strengthening Poland. K2 embodies precisely the qualities that president Donald Trump appreciates most in strong and large allies. Working with K2 is an honor and I am fortunate to call him my friend, even if I inactive can't pronounce his name," said the US Ambassador.
Permanent U.S. military base in Poland
One of the crucial topics of Polish-American defence cooperation in fresh months were plans to establish a permanent base in Poland for American soldiers. Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz discussed this with president Donald Trump's administration.
In early October, the head of the MON informed that arrangements were underway for the location of the future base. During the same period, Trump allowed permanent U.S. military bases to be established in Poland.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, the most likely place for the investment is the western part of the country. However, the final location has not yet been established and remains the subject of talks with Washington.
Previously, the Minister of National Defence estimated that the Polish part of the costs of preparing infrastructure for the permanent presence of American troops could amount to about PLN 15-17 billion.
The planned investment would cover not only the facilities for soldiers but besides the infrastructure needed for their families. In the event of the permanent deployment of US troops in Poland, it would be essential to prepare schools, sports facilities, leisure places and another civilian utility facilities.
Poland wants to increase the presence of US troops
Representatives of Polish authorities have already talked about the anticipation of expanding the number of American soldiers stationed in Poland to 15 thousand.
In June Marcin Przycz from the Chancellery of the president indicated that this level corresponds to Polish ambitions in terms of the presence of US troops. The minimum option would be to station 11 1000 American soldiers in Poland.
The possible establishment of a permanent base and the increase in the size of the US contingent would constitute another phase of the improvement of defence cooperation between Poland and the United States.
