Purification and disinfection of flooded areas, removal of harm caused by large water, construction of temporary bridges and provision of medical assistance in flood areas – these are presently the main tasks of soldiers active in helping residents of confederate Poland. The engagement of the services in the fight against the flood and its removal was discussed yesterday in the Sejm. Prior to noon, a permanent sub-committee on social affairs in the military was held on the actions of soldiers in areas affected by the flood. In the evening, a plenary gathering was held, during which the government provided information on the work undertaken in connection with the flood.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk thanked residents of disaster areas, services and all those active in providing assistance. He said that the large heroes of the last fewer days are firefighters, soldiers, and policemen, who supply 24/7 safety in flood areas.
Reports of the actions taken were besides presented by defence and home affairs ministers. “The Polish army has been active in the action to defend the lives and wellness of the population from the first hours and in all actions related to the fight against the flood,” stressed Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. The head of the MON informed that more than 1,300 units of military equipment, including 758 passenger vehicles and trucks, were directed to direct action, 17 sanitary vehicles, 43 loaders, 59 dump trucks, 19 PTSs, 40 bomb boats. The Deputy Prime Minister spoke, among others, about tasks carried out by engineering and chemical troops, and about air support and medical assistance. "We have activated a multi-wave, multi-monthly operation "Fenix" to rebuild, organize and return not only to this condition before flooding, before damage, but – as the Prime Minister pointed out – to increase the quality and usefulness of these places to the best standard possible," said the Minister of Defence.
Kosiniak-Kamysz thanked all Polish Army soldiers, commanders and their subordinates for their unlimited devotion. “Poland is arrogant of you, all those who experience your aid are grateful.”
Currently, more than 25,5 000 soldiers are allocated to flood-related operations, of which 19,8 000 are active in the field and others stay in the retreat. Now 1 of the most crucial tasks for the military is to support residents in removing the effects of floods and rebuilding damaged infrastructure.
In the context of Operation Fenix, 1 of the most crucial activities is to clean and disinfect flooded areas to minimise the epidemiological threat. According to Cezary Tomczyk, Deputy Minister of Defence, on platform X, 486 chemical troops carry out operations in flood areas. “We request to decontaminated school fields, libraries, schools and kindergartens,” wrote the Deputy Minister.
In the last day, 5 disinfection task forces worked, among others, at the method School Complex in Nysa, the Library Centre in Kłodzek, the sports hall in Brzeg and the school in Lewina Brzeski. 2 teams conducted reconnaissances in Oława and Stroń Śląski, and the disinfection of roads in Brzeg began. So far, chemical troops have disinfected about 17,000 m2 of space.
Nine engineering task groups are besides active in helping residents of confederate Poland, which remove flood damage, purify and irritate roads, remove congestion from trees in riverbeds, export flood waste and debris. Engineering troops besides work to rebuild temporary road infrastructure.
Engineers in uniforms will build temporary bridges utilizing the DMS-65 (built from the Government strategical Reserve Agency) structure in Krapkowice, Śląski's Site, Zdrój Land and Głuchołazy where work is already underway. The military strengthens shafts in respective twelve towns, including in Czerwińsk, Sulechów, Świecki, Słubice, Gubin or Legnica, supervises and expands shafts in Prakików and Boraszyn and repairs damaged shafts in Wilkow.
Today, Police on the X portal reported a tragic flood balance. "So far 7 deaths have been revealed of people whose circumstances of death may indicate that their origin was drowning," it says. The bodies of 2 men and women were found in riverbeds in Bielsko-Biała, Stroju Śląski and Nowy Świętow in the powiat ługołaski. The body of the man in Kłodzek and the female in Zdrój Land was discovered in flooded buildings. In the second town, the body of a man was besides found in a flooded car, and the body of a man was discovered in the water at 1 of the streets.
