On your hands
His Excellency
Fr Archbishop Stanisław Gądecki
President of the Polish Episcopal Conference
The noblest Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops of Poland,
Due to the current socio-political situation in our Homeland, and in peculiar with statements and concrete actions in the political sphere against the sanctity and inviolability of human life, we compose a letter to the Polish Episcopate on behalf of young Poles.
The dignity of human life is simply a universal value, and the concern for the destinies of the helpless, derived straight from the teachings of Christ himself, is the foundation of Latin civilization, on which we have been raised and whose principles we respect and want to protect. On 11 April, the law on abortion is announced. All projects presume the anticipation of killing unborn children to varying degrees. The projects were not only reported by the anti-cleric left or progressive Citizens' Coalition, but besides calling themselves "people", "conservative", or "Christian-Democratic" - the 3rd Way. The erstwhile Prime Minister of Law and Justice, Mateusz Morawiecki, expressed a affirmative opinion about these proposals. We are profoundly sad and terrified due to the fact that the Catholic is obliged to abide by the principles of his holy faith, and the declarations and actions of Polish parliamentarians openly contradict them, although in the electorate of all political parties in Poland there are practicing Catholics.
Such an attitude especially of those parties whose members declare their attachment to Catholicism, reconciles the conscience of their voters, as well as the moral and social order of the Polish people. Saint John Paul II said: “If a parent is allowed to kill her own child, what can halt you and me from killing each other?” The Polish nation, so far experienced by its full past with dramatic events, and now in the state of utmost social polarization, can no longer be divided, and should constitute unity, according to the words of our Savior: "Every kingdom divided internally is ravaged and the home falls upon the house.” National unity, however, cannot mean condoning moral evil and violating the most crucial principles on which our civilisation is built. The social life of our Nation must be based on the principles of Catholic faith, and concrete action must be taken to build a national community surviving in communion with Christ.
Being aware of the importance of our words and the seriousness of the matter, but at the same time feeling liable for the destiny of the Nation, and especially the younger part of it, we ask the Shepherds of the Polish Church to take concrete actions that can halt evil, spreading through Catholic politicians. Quoting here the message of erstwhile Prefect of the ultimate Court of the Apostolic Signature, Archbishop Raymund Leo Burke, saying that "Catholics who publically support the killing of unborn children cannot accept Holy Communion.’ And besides citing Kan. 915, talking about the persistent persistence in the manifest grave sin, Can. 1321, whose conditions are fulfilled to respect Polish parliamentarians as full sane, deliberately supporting abortion, and their deeds as public, and thus - proven by themselves and yet to Kan. 1326 § 1, 2o, indicating the anticipation of stricter punishment due to dignity - in this case the associate of the Polish Parliament, we request the imposition on politicians who are Catholic and signed under draft laws liberalising abortion law, excommunication. In addition, we believe that any politician who votes in favour of any law that extends access to abortion becomes a partner in Kan's crime. 1398, thus taking on excommunication summer sentiment. We request that, after the votes made in the parliament, we publish, for the sake of the priests and the faithful Catholic Church, the names of politicians to whom the sacraments should not be given, and above all the Holy Communion.
Bishops of the Holy Roman Church, who are the Successors of the Apostles, have the tools to fight for the observance of the law which the Church itself has established in Christ's name, guided by the Holy Spirit, and so we beg for their use.
We profoundly hope that with the appropriate aid of the Church we will be able to halt the iniquity which people of sick will want to spread in Poland. The destiny of the conscience of the Nation, the destiny of Polish children, and yet the destiny of our future The homeland lies in the hands of not only average citizens, but besides in the hands of Shepherds. So we hope that you, Dear and Venerable Hierarchs, will take bold but essential steps to repair our common heritage, Poland.
With a request for prayer for Homeland, Nation and ourselves,
Piotr Walczak - president of the Poznań Youth ellipse of All Poland
David Trzewak - president of Wielkopolska district
Youth of All Poland.
