“Shot for sanitary purposes”. “Red executioner”, “bloody dog of revolution”: since the Bolshevik coup Felix Dzierżyński worked without remainder on his reputation as an architect of russian terror. There's been a trend lately to show his more human face. However, the fact is that the head of Cheka and GPU was primarily a criminal liable for the deaths of hundreds of thousands. Descriptions of the torture applied by Dzierżyński's subordinates – officers of the russian safety service created by him – bear hair on their head. In Kiev, for example, officers liked to apply to the bare torso of a heated rat cage victim. A desperate animal with teeth paved his only escape route: through the body of the unfortunate. But the creativity of the oppressors did not end there. All the illustrations utilized in the article are written by Danzig Baldew – a non-priority-free 1 who grew up in an orphanage for the “children of the enemies of the people”, followed by an NKVD officer and prison services of the russian Union. In his gruesome drawings, frequently referred to as crime pornography, he showed a large deal of cruelty to checkers and engenders. Sketches, inactive in the past system, dedicated to Solzhenitin. They have late appeared in an English-language publication “Drawings from the Gulag”.
Attention! Especially violent material. The prisoners were poured boiling hands to rip off their skin on “white gloves”. Others were turned bare inside of barrels filled with nails. The skulls were crushed by gradually tightening the leather belt on them. Bone sawing. People were chained to boards and slow thrown into a furnace or boiling water. In winter, it was popular to pour water in the cold until the executioners turned into ice poles.
Psychological torture was frequently used. They were held for execution, but blanks were fired. To force obedience, hostages were taken by hundreds and hundreds were shot in the same way. They were forced to observe torture and rape on their loved ones. After all, they were buried alive.
They're crazy about what happened.
Sadists working for Felix Dzierżynski laughed at their victims during torture, which they treated as a sport. They raced each another in cruelty and organized a human hunt. Most were men, but there were no shortages of women. 1 of them killed over 7 100 people. She needed only 2 months to do this, and sometimes her bare hands were adequate for the execution weapon. Another had more than a 100 on her conscience, including the full household of his crucified ex - husband.
CITIZENS AND CITIZENS OF THE NATION
Even the oppressors themselves found it hard to endure specified savagery. Drinking and drug abuse were common among them, allowing them to forget about regular atrocities. Not everyone succeeded, so many lost their senses. Prominent Bolshevik Bucharin even stated that intellectual disorders posed a professional hazard to the workers of the russian panic apparatus. Its creator was Felix Dzierżyński.
SECURITISATION
In December 1917, Dzierżyński headed the All-Russian Extraordinary Commission for Combating Counterrevolution and Sabotage, briefly Waiting. Within a short time, it became an all - powerful institution of more than a 4th of a million people, before which all of Russia’s revolutionary fire trembled. The Chekst three-person “tribunals” decided in no way to arrest, exile or execute any man.
GULAG OBLIGATIONS EVERYDAY — EXECUTIONS EXECUTED IN OBLIGATIONS
No 1 was safe. Almost everything could be considered counter-revolutionary activity: private commerce, drunkenness or late for work. Any resident of the country could have been arrested as a saboteur, a white-headed man, or an enemy of the proletariat. Randomly chosen, powerful and unpunished checkers were increasingly corrupted.
The prisons filled up rapidly, and more than half of the detainees had only a arrest warrant or a single tip in their folders. Overcrowding, deficiency of heating, food, and water were the regular lives of those held. Almost half of them suffered from chronic diseases. Although the number of officers was increasing rapidly, the camera did not have the chance to decently consider each case. Life, death, or exile to the camp were decided on velocity and frequently entirely freely.
Open up the human enemy!
An example came from above. erstwhile at a gathering of the russian government, Lenin sent a question to Dzierżyński on the card: “How many dangerous counter-revolutionists do we have in prison?” Iron Felix wrote back: 1500. Lenin placed a cross on this number as a sign that he had read and returned the note. Dzerżyński misunderstood his leader: a 1000 and a half people were shot in Moscow that same night by mistake.
MONTH OF FIRE
The article was based, among another things, on Sylwia Frolov’s book Dzierżyński. Love and Revolution” (Horizon 2020 sign, 2014).
The first concentration camps were established in russian Russia as early as 1918. Busted runaways were punished by ten: of the 5 years in prison, 50 were made. The second escape meant shooting. shortly the first forced labour camps were created.
It was rapidly concluded that the conditions in the existing camps were not sufficiently strict. In 1923 a celebrated special-purpose forced labour camp was established in the Solowiec Islands, recognized as the first of the camps forming part of the later "Gulag Archipelago". It's hard to describe in a short text how sinister and absurd this place was, so I'm just going to limit myself to examples of punishment and harassment.
Those working on logging were not allowed to dry their clothes in the fall. erstwhile a thick layer of fluffy snow fell, no clothes or shoes were issued. They wouldn't let us go back to the roof overnight erstwhile we didn't have a advanced standard. To make a fresh camp point, respective 100 prisoners were sent to the wilderness, where they had to build everything from scratch without any materials.
It was besides utilized to pour water on the cold, to put a bare prisoner on the food for mosquito clouds, to drag horses after the time, to hold a man immersed to the neck in a swamp, or to tie along a wooden ball and to flush down long, steep, curly stairs.
"The Gulag prisoner who lost his life in playing cards is being brought out".
In 1922, Waiting was transformed into the United State Political Board (in short, OGPU). The number of victims of both institutions is hard to estimate. Historians estimation that until the death of Dzierżyński in 1926 it amounted to at least a 4th million people. There may have been more of them than those who died during the civilian war.
Violent proceeding performed by 2 laughing supporters of Dzierżyński.
Dzerżyński frequently interviewed the prisoners personally, but he was not, as he was accused, a sadist straight committing the top atrocities.
However, he considered mass panic a necessity, consciously built his device and held work for its bloody activity.
