Who was Albert Pike?
Albert Pike (1809–1891) was an American poet, journalist, lawyer and 1 of The most crucial figures in the past of the 19th century free-multure. A man with extended classical erudition, profoundly rooted in ancient philosophy, hermetic thought, and initiation traditions.
With the masonry associated since 1850, in a short time he passed all the symbolic steps and side engravings to yet associate with Former and Accredited Scottish Rit. In 1859 he was elected Sovereign Grand Commander of the South Jurisdiction of RSDiU in the United States, holding this office until death. He played a key function in reform of Scottish rituals, whose fresh versions, published in 1868, shaped the modern practice of this strategy around the world.
His most crucial work remains Morals and Dogma (1871) — monumental treaty on philosophy, symbolism and Masonic doctrine, which to this day is considered to be 1 of the most demanding and influential works of free-sea literature. Pike was neither a moralist nor a theologian; he was philosopher of initiationfor which the masonry was a tool for forming reason, character and civic responsibility.
A controversial character, frequently burdened with later myths and conspiracy theories, remains, however, above all architect of modern Masonic thought and an author whose lyrics inactive provoke to intellectual confrontation alternatively than passive reading.
