Polish activists from Global Flotilla Sumud landed on Monday at Chopin Airport in Warsaw after deportation from Israel. Franciszek Sterczewski (KO), president of the Social and Cultural Association of Polish Palestinians Omar Faris and president of the Nomada Nina Bird Association returned to Poland.
Poles were in a group of over 470 people from 47 countries participating in a marine humanitarian convoy. The Israeli Navy seized 42 ships last week from Wednesday on Thursday in global waters, and crews were brought to Israel, detained and deported.
Violent treatment in custody
Faris reported on the press briefing that the participants of the flotilla were treated "in an absolutely brutal way". "For a fewer hours, I am 73 years old, they tied my hands back and put stones" - said the president of the Polish delegation.
Sterczewski described that during 5 days in Israeli detention "was not nice". "We were not allowed to sleep. The guards would shine flashlights in our eyes for hours and play us music from propaganda Israeli films. We're dogs. Pluto's on us. Guns were threatened" - said the MP.
Sharp words to Sikorski
Activists powerfully criticized Deputy Prime Minister and Head of MFA Radosław Sikorski. Jasiewicz, who has British citizenship and left Israel earlier, said, "Sikorski is simply a professional pawn and he truly has no thought what global law means either."
The bird estimated that Sikorski should resign. "It's very clear to us. We were kidnapped from a legal, peaceful humanitarian mission, and the fact that Minister Sikorski continues to negate the savage genocide committed in the Palestinian people by Israel is an absolute scandal and disgrace for our country" - she said.
MFA consequence and global context
MFA spokesperson Maciej Wewiór assured that the ministry protects the interests of Poland and its citizens. "It is good that thanks to these actions 3 of our citizens are free to return to the country" - he wrote in a comment for PAP.
The acquisition of the fleet has sparked a wave of demonstrations in European cities, including Rome, Barcelona, Paris, Berlin and Athens. On Thursday, the demonstration was besides held in Warsaw, where incidents occurred - a window was broken at the door of the MFA and the entrance was covered with red paint.
