TANGERANG- Major LCC, AirAsia Indonesia (QZ) plans to launch six new flight routes in 2025 as part of its network expansion strategy.
The Tangerang-based airline will add five aircraft to its fleet, expanding its operations to 30 planes.
AirAsia Indonesia New Routes
President Director Veranita Yosephine Sinaga revealed these plans during a Ramp Check at Soekarno-Hatta Airport’s Terminal 2F on December 27, 2024. The airline currently maintains five aircraft under maintenance, which will join active operations, reported Tempo.
The new routes will serve both domestic and international markets, though specific destinations remain under wraps. Sinaga emphasizes the airline’s focus on managing the ongoing peak season before finalizing the new route details.
The expansion builds on AirAsia Indonesia’s growth in 2024, which saw the launch of five international routes connecting Jakarta to Kota Kinabalu and Bandar Seri Begawan, and Bali to Cairns, Kota Kinabalu, and Phuket. The airline also started a domestic service between Bandar Lampung and Bali.
AirAsia Indonesia’s current network spans 32 routes, including eight domestic and 24 international destinations. The airline operates 399 weekly flights across its network, marking a significant growth in its operational capacity.
Operational Hurdles
AirAsia Indonesia fell short of its 2024 flight targets due to aircraft spare parts shortages. President Director Veranita Yosephine Sinaga points to the global supply chain disruptions that emerged after the COVID-19 pandemic as the main cause.
The aviation industry now sees intense competition for spare parts as airlines worldwide rush to restore their fleets to full capacity. This supply shortage has directly impacted AirAsia’s ability to maintain its planned flight schedules.
Airnav Indonesia data shows AirAsia leads in international flight frequency among Indonesian carriers but operates the lowest number of domestic flights in 2024. Despite these challenges, Sinaga remains confident about expanding domestic routes in 2025.
The planned domestic network expansion aligns with AirAsia’s goal to boost Indonesia’s tourism sector and contribute to national economic growth.
