DELHI– Tata Group-owned Air India (AI) has announced the phased reinstatement of several international routes following the “Safety Pause” that began after the tragic AI171 incident on 12 June 2025.
The airline will partially restore frequencies from August 1, 2025, with full operational resumption targeted for 01 October 2025. This move follows Boeing 787 inspections and ongoing geopolitical airspace constraints in the Middle East and Pakistan.

Air India Partially Restores Flights
Air India has begun the process of restoring flights that were temporarily reduced during the June–July “Safety Pause.”
This precautionary step, initiated after the fatal AI171 incident, enabled in-depth checks on Boeing 787 aircraft and adjusted operations due to restricted airspace in conflict-affected regions.
From 01 August through 30 September 2025, the airline will resume or adjust frequencies on select long-haul routes across Europe, North America, Asia-Pacific, and Africa.
The most notable change is a new routing between Ahmedabad (AMD) and London Heathrow (LHR), which will temporarily replace the current Ahmedabad–London Gatwick (LGW) service.

Routes Being Reinstated or Increased
Europe
- Delhi–London Heathrow (LHR): Full 24x weekly service restored from 16 July
- Delhi–Zurich (ZRH): Increased from 4x to 5x weekly starting 01 August
Asia (Far East)
- Delhi–Tokyo Haneda (HND): 7x weekly reinstated from 01 August
- Delhi–Seoul Incheon (ICN): Full 5x weekly reinstated by 01 September
Africa
- Delhi–Nairobi (NBO): Temporarily restored 3x weekly service until 31 August

Ongoing Reductions and Frequency Adjustments
Air India will maintain reduced frequencies on certain routes through 30 September due to operational constraints and fleet availability. Key adjustments include:
Europe
- Bengaluru–London Heathrow (LHR): Reduced to 4x weekly from 01 August
- Delhi–Paris (CDG): Cut from 12x to 7x weekly from 01 August
- Delhi–Milan (MXP): Reduced to 3x weekly from 16 July
- Delhi–Amsterdam (AMS): Currently 5x weekly; resumes daily from 01 August
- Amritsar–Birmingham (BHX): Returns to 3x weekly from 01 September
North America
- Delhi–Chicago (ORD): Down to 3x weekly, increases to 4x in August
- Delhi–New York JFK (JFK): Reduced to 6x weekly from 16 July
- Mumbai–New York JFK (JFK): Reduced to 6x weekly from 01 August
- Delhi–Toronto (YYZ), Vancouver (YVR), and San Francisco (SFO): All operating at lower frequencies
Australia
- Delhi–Melbourne (MEL) & Delhi–Sydney (SYD): Continue at 5x weekly
Temporarily Suspended Routes Until 30 September
The following routes remain suspended until the end of September 2025:
- Amritsar–London Gatwick (LGW)
- Goa (Mopa)–London Gatwick (LGW)
- Bengaluru–Singapore (SIN)
- Pune–Singapore (SIN)
These suspensions are in place to accommodate scheduling adjustments, aircraft checks, and airspace restrictions.

Passenger Support and Operational Outlook
Air India is actively contacting affected passengers to arrange alternate bookings or offer full refunds. The airline has extended apologies for the disruptions caused and emphasized its focus on safety and reliability.
By August, Air India will operate over 525 international weekly flights across 63 destinations worldwide. The full network is expected to resume by October 2025, barring any further operational or geopolitical disruptions.
