The planet stands on the brink of a fresh global conflict, warns NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte. In his opinion, planet War III could start with a coordinated attack by China and Russia, which will have an unprecedented impact on planet order.

Rutte points out that the script assumes simultaneous military action by Beijing and Moscow: Xi Jinping would hit Taiwan, while Vladimir Putin would attack 1 of the NATO states, most likely in the Baltic region.

In conversation with New York Times Rutte said:

“Let us not be naive about this.”

He added that specified an attack would have been previously agreed between the 2 leaders:

“If Xi Jinping wanted to attack Taiwan, he would first call his very inferior partner in all of this, Vladimir Vladimir Putin, sitting in Moscow, and say, ‘Hey, I'm going to do this, and I request you to take them in Europe, attacking NATO territory.”

He stated that this is how the global conflict would most likely begin. He besides stressed the request for an immediate increase in defence spending and enhanced military cooperation on the NATO-Indo-Pacific line:

"We gotta do 2 things. Firstly, NATO as a full must be so strong that the Russians will never dare. Secondly, we must work with the Indo-Pacific region. It is something president Trump is very supportive of due to the fact that we are closely connected and we must work together in the defence and innovation industries."

Rutte admitted that Putin would arm himself faster and that the West had to answer the same:

“We have a immense geopolitical challenge ahead of us.”

Rutte's words met with an immediate consequence from the Kremlin. Dmitri Medvedev, the erstwhile president of Russia and 1 of Putin's closest associates, responded with ridicule by writing on social media:

“Rutte seemingly ate besides many magic mushrooms that the Dutch love so much.”

The NATO chief's warnings came as Russia continues its offensive in Ukraine. At the same time Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Donald Trump, informing him that he was not going to halt the war. Trump reported it to journalists saying:

“We talked. It was rather a long conversation and active many matters, including Iran, but besides wars in Ukraine.”

Mark Rutte does not have abstract visions – he talks about circumstantial threats that he believes can trigger an irreversible avalanche of events. His warnings are clear: the planet cannot afford complacency or belief that war only breaks out far away. If Xi and Putin decide to act together, Europe and the full Western planet can be in immediate danger.
