ABW stopped Russians recruiting for Wagner Group

On Friday, August 11, the interior safety Agency detained 2 citizens of the Russian Federation – Alexey T. and Andrei G., who carried out activities for the peculiar services of Russia. The activities of men were to conduct propaganda activities commissioned by Russian peculiar services in Poland, including recruitment to Wagner Group.

The preparatory proceedings are conducted by the ABW under the supervision of the Malopolska Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Krakow. According to the findings of Polish services, the detainees in Kraków and Warsaw sold propaganda materials of the Russian Wagner Group, including leaflets containing a link to the recruitment sites. The interior safety Agency established that the detainees on 10 August spread leaflets in Krakow, while on 11 August in Warsaw. The Russians owned over 3,000 propaganda materials promoting the Wagner Group, which were donated to them in Moscow.

Photographs of flyers drifted on the Polish net until the Russians were detained. 1 of the netizens published the minute erstwhile Russian recruitment material was poured out in Warsaw. The image of the fishy was registered. Aleksei T. and Andrei G. have totalled about 300 leaflets in the public places in Krakow and Warsaw. In total, they were commissioned to place materials in respective 100 public places in both cities in Poland. Both suspects documented their actions on an ongoing basis, photographing sites taped with propaganda materials. On the basis of the photographic material, they received remuneration from the Russian side – in total, they were to receive up to 500 1000 Russian rubles, or approx. 20 1000 PLN. After performing their tasks in Krakow and Warsaw, Russians planned to leave Poland on 12 August.

Both suspects were detained thanks to the cooperation of the ABW with officers of Małopolska and Mazowieckie Police. Large amounts of propaganda materials and data media were secured with the detainees. It was besides established that the detainees had kept in contact with their powerholders who sent both detainees guidance on the actions taken.

The Prosecutor's Office has placed respective charges against the detainees, including actions in a abroad interview against Poland, participation in an global armed union aimed at committing terrorist offences, enlisting in a prohibited global mercenary service, and using, utilizing and promoting symbols and names supporting Russia's armed aggression into Ukraine. According to the court's decision, the detainees were arrested temporarily. Both suspects are facing up to 10 years imprisonment.
