Statement by Polish citizens of 14 March 2023 on the conviction of Justyna Wydrzynska, activist of Abortion Dream Team.
The activist Abortion Dream Team, Justyna Wydrzyńska by decision of the territory Court for Warsaw-Prague was convicted for assisting in abortion. We are impressed by her attitude, including the fact that throughout the process she emphasizes that she has helped a female in need, that she has truly helped in abortion and that she intends to proceed doing so.
There is no point in commenting. It is contrary to the rulings of global tribunals, just as the full Polish law in this respect is contrary to them – besides before the Przyłębska ruling, although part of the opposition is in favour of restoring it. The citizens of the Republic of Poland are of the opinion that the fundamental and urgent problem present is the change of law. In the most urgent way possible, due to the fact that not only are sentences in Poland that bring to head the grim reality of Iran, but unfortunately they lose the life of a female who has been refused treatments.
We have long advocated an immediate moratorium suspending the criminal consequences of the provisions of the household Planning Act or at least a message by Julia Przyłębska on this issue. At the women's protest summit, we called on the legislature to take the legislative initiative to depenate abortion urgently and to accept the function of a peacemaker – not a organization – in the conflict over abortion. The apparent condition for resolving the conflict is not to repress. We inactive request it. We besides find it unacceptable to effort to usage the "clause of conscience" to deprive women of the rights awaiting abortion. These are issues that Parliament should address immediately.
After gathering these urgent demands that we consider essential for any further steps, we are in favour of an Irish model for resolving the conflict. We are convinced that any regulation of the right to abortion – without borders, as the Abortion Dream squad demands, or with restrictions to different extents, as the Civic Platform or PSL proposes – requires circumstantial guarantees.
“It cannot be like this in Poland”, we wrote in our own programme a long time ago, and we keep this position, “that the right to find the lives of citizens – as is the case in the case of the right to legal and safe abortion for women – may be decided by the temporary parliamentary majority of the left, right or liberals, the appeal of bishops, or the legislative initiative of utmost national environments.” We are so convinced that the final form of the law in this respect cannot be the subject of a average law, which any fresh parliamentary majority can at any time alter or effectively challenge in the Constitutional Court, as it was done against women even erstwhile the Court acted correctly. This is mainly why we have advocated and advocated a general referendum on this issue, reasoning that it is only possible for women's rights to give strong guarantees of sustainability and the essential social legitimacy. In fact, women's rights, like all human rights, should be constitutional.
Today, however, we request first of all an immediate moratorium and warrant that abortion is not punishable.
