Today, we meet to celebrate the memory of 1 of the most crucial figures in the past of the “Gazeta Polska” Clubs, a man whose life, work and dedication to the service of Poland have made traces in our activity – Ryszard Kapuściński. I am highly honored to announce that the “Polish Newspapers” Club in Piotrków Trybunalski is gaining the name of Ryszard Kapusciński. Richard was a man who was not afraid of challenges. He has always put hard tasks before himself and others, utilizing the fullness of human capabilities and abilities. He was a careful observer of the planet and could perceive to another man, no substance how hard his stories would be. His work had a profound impact on our lives, our activities, our commitment and our view of many social and political issues. His legacy continues to inspire us to act, to search the fact and to preach it in the face of all difficulties. Our Piotrkowski club started its activities with a gathering in Krakow with Ryszard Kapusciński. The “Polish Newspapers” Club in Piotrków Trybunalski is simply a place that has always been focused on reliable, independent and courageous activity. The name of Ryszard Kapuściński will be for us a symbol of the unbreakable social work for Poland, defending values which are the foundation of our identity. For us, as the Club, it is besides an expression of appreciation for all those who fight for freedom of speech, fact and social justice. Giving the name of Ryszard Kapusciński to our club is besides a commitment. The commitment to proceed the mission that he himself carried out – to be where past happens, to face the truth, no substance how hard it would be. Today, as in the future, we will effort to follow the same way – without compromise, without fear, with respect for our past and with full commitment to defending freedom of speech, fact and justice. Thank you for your presence and for your support. Together we will proceed this beautiful mission, which Richard continued to carry out. It is an honor that we can connect his name to our club. – said Beata Drędź, president of the “Polish Newspapers” Club in Piotrków Trybunalski.

The naming of the late Ryszard Kapuściński to the "GP" club was considered a symbolic motion of honouring a individual who for years was not only the leader, but besides the heart of the full club movement.

Tomasz Sakiewicz, editor-in-chief of “Gazeta Polska” and head of tv Republika, referring to this decision, for the independent portal.pl stated: “Ryszard was not only the head of clubs, but besides my large friend, so it was a very touching event for me. As far as I know, the name they want to wear is different clubs. A club from Paris, among others, came to us. We'll gotta work this out... Richard devoted his time to anyone who called him. Now that it was gone, everyone felt it very personally. Richard’s personality permeated what the GP Clubs are today. No wonder they want to bear his name. The club in Piotrków had regular contact with Richard, was highly active in organizing reunions, another events, so it is no wonder that he received his name first.”
