A summertime full of challenges

Learning tactics, shooting, first aid, as well as a drill – this is the plan that respective 1000 people decided to implement this summer. This is possible thanks to the programme “Holiday with the Army” or voluntary training of essential military service, aimed primarily at young people. The third, last edition of this year's MON vacation task has just begun.

Training voluntary essential military service began in 2022. Thanks to them, volunteers who are reasoning about their future with the army have the chance to see if this is truly a good plan. Anyone who chooses to participate in specified classes during 27 days of basic training under the guidance of soldiers-instructors learns the basics of military craft. This year, the Ministry of Defence prepared a peculiar summertime edition of the training aimed at young people. All to get students or students to usage their academic break to get to know the military accademia. 2 rounds have been held so far under the MON programme “Holidays with the Army”7,000 people in total. On Monday, the 3rd began. Another 3.5 1000 daredevils decided to take part in the classes held in 40 military units from all over the country.

– The participants of the training who attended our unit on Monday are young people, aged 20-35. Many of them said that the thought of getting active with the army had been on their head before, but it was this task that had mobilized them to decision from words to deeds," said Captain Irena Paczek-Kraczczak, a press officer 12 Mechanized Brigade. In the unit, training under the “Holiday with the Army” programme began 100 people. 150 more volunteers face challenges in 9th Armoured Cavalry Brigade. – Most of the participants came to us from northern Poland, Olsztyn, Lidzbark, Malbork, Elbląg, but there are besides daredevils from Warsaw, Łódź and even Katowice – says Marta Hajkowicz, the spokesperson of the unit.

The first day spent in barracks was very intense for participants. They had to complete all the formalities associated with the beginning of the service, received uniforms, met with psychologists, doctors, and, if necessary, visited a hairdresser, and learned the safety conditions of military facilities. The first drill classes were besides held. – On the second day, participants of the training receive weapons. This is an crucial event for all soldier and you gotta prepare for it decently – says Captain Donut-Krawczak. How did the voluntary respond to the first days in the military? At first, everyone is excited due to the fact that it is fresh to them. However, the first night in the unit verifies their views. Not everyone finds themselves working in a group, surviving in a multi-person room, erstwhile all minute of the day is carefully planned – explains Marta Hajkowicz. "And indeed, a fewer people have already given up, but those who stay are determined to complete the training," she notes.

Wednesday is the first day for students to spend on training ground and tactical belts. This is where they're going to learn how to operate weapons or tactics for the next fewer days. all day the level of difficulty of classes will increase and the agenda will become more tense. The 27-day training will culminate in a tactical loop and... an exam during which the voluntary will gotta prove that all the issues they've dealt with in the unit have in their small finger. The daredevils who win will join the military oath. And this will take place on September 14th.

The recently appointed soldiers will then be able to decide whether they want to proceed their service during 11 months of specialist training, power up the ranks of territorial defence troops, or decision on to an active or passive reserve.

On the another hand, those who have not taken advantage of the anticipation of the “Holiday with the Army” programme, and who want to have 27-day basic training, inactive have that opportunity. The next autumn editions of DZSW will begin on 30 September and 18 November. They can be attended by any adult with Polish citizenship, previously unpunished. However, the candidate should have physical and psychophysical capacity to serve, at least basic education and have an excellent reputation.

For training under voluntary basic military service, each associate is provided with accommodation, board, insurance, as well as a gross wage of PLN 6,000.
