“Praised be God” – with these words, spoken in Polish, Jimmy Carter welcomed Pope John Paul II to the White House. He was the first US leader to receive the Pope in the White House. The thirty-ninth US president besides contributed to stopping the russian invasion of Poland and the fall of communism on the Vistula.
