Pope Leon XIV worked for 8 years in the Diocese of Chiclayo in northwestern Peru. Local authorities now want to exploit the region's “great potential”, hoping to attract tourists and pilgrims, both home and foreign.
On the “Pope trail” there should be no shortage of spiritual experiences and more mundane ones, including tasteful ones. The way is to include the bishops' palace – the seat of Cardinal Provost's office; respective churches and smaller towns connected with the missionary activity of the current Pope.
The way is besides intended to advance local gastronomy – including Pope's favourite pear cake, a product from the suburb of Chiclayo.
