84 percent of Poles drink alcohol, 28 percent do so at least erstwhile a week. As many as 84 percent of adult Poles drink alcohol, of which 28 percent does it at least erstwhile a week – according to a nationwide study, which the Student Initiative presented in the Sejm on Thursday. The presentation coincided with the beginning of parliamentary work on amendments to the anti-alcoholic law.

The survey conducted by Brainlab between 12 and 18 December 2025 included 1203 adults in Poland. Results show that 30 percent of Poles scope for alcohol respective times a week and 18 percent respective times a year. The most popular drink is beer – 34 percent of respondents drink them most, 14 percent choose wine most, and 11 percent choose non-alcoholic beer.

Criticism of beer advertising

More than half of the respondents (51 percent) believe there are besides many beer ads on TV. Most respondents – 54 percent – besides claim that beer advertising distorts reality, disregarding the negative effects of drinking. Moreover, 54 percent of those surveyed found that non-alcoholic beer ads were actually hidden alcoholic beer ads.

As many as 60 percent of the respondents declare that they can separate between beer advertising and alcohol. However, 45 percent of respondents believe that non-alcoholic beer advertising encourages the acquisition of alcoholic beer from the same brand.

Support for bans

Three out of 10 Poles (33 percent) support the full ban on all beer ads – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Another 16 percent advocates the ban on advertising exclusively for alcoholic beer. There are 32 percent of those surveyed against any prohibition.

Legislative proposals

Two draft amendments to the Law on Sobriety Education and Against Alcoholism will be considered in the Sejm. Left proposes a complete ban on advertising and promotion of all alcoholic beverages, including beer. The task besides assumes a ban on the sale of alcohol at petrol stations, in medical facilities and at night throughout the country (22:00-6:00), as well as mandatory age verification.

Poland 2050 presented a proposal for an absolute ban on advertising of alcohol, an extension of the municipality's right to ban sales at certain times and an increase in the fees for the authorisation of the sale of alcohol in detail.

Alcohol sold to minors

Paweł Mrozek of the Student Action presented the results of the experiment, which showed that alcohol is sold to minors without checking the identity card in “most shops in Warsaw but not only in Warsaw”. The survey besides showed that among young people aged 18-24 beer acts as a "gate of entry" into the planet of alcohol.
