7 October – celebrations of Polish independence

magnapolonia.org 1 month ago

7 October 1918 is the right day for Poland to gain independence. It was then that the Regency Council announced the Declaration of independency of the Kingdom of Poland (also called the Message of the Regency Council to the Polish Nation).

It was on 7 October at the initiative of Zdzisław Lubomirski, in the “Polish Monitor”, that is, the body in which existing legal acts are printed today, that the Polish Declaration of independency was published in the form of a manifesto. The paper was signed by members of the Regency Council – the only Polish authority recognized on the global phase at the time, and was the first call of real political significance.

The Polish Declaration of independency begins with the return to the Polish Nation: “The large hr for which the full Polish nation has been waiting with desire is already killing off.”

Unfortunately, historical papers and school textbooks, chapters devoted to the process of regaining independence, mention specified names as Piłsudski, Dmowski, Paderewski or Witos. Those whose effects were far more crucial are ignored. The actual act of declaring Polish independency was published in “Polish Monitor” on 7 October 1918.
