"Stupid as a bag of bricks". Elon Musk insults Donald Trump's trade advisor

Two crucial people around Trump were in conflict: Navarro — 1 of the architects of the current U.S. tariff policy — and Musk, the richest man in the planet who generously funded the election run of the current U.S. President.

“He truly is an idiot”

Musk in fresh days criticised Trump's duties. This was met with Navarro's response. In an interview with American television, CNBC insinuated that Muska — Tesla — was not American enough.

“If you look at his mill in Texas, you will see that most engines — for electrical cars they are batteries — come from Japan and China. Electronics comes from Taiwan. What we want — and here we are different from Elon — are the tires from Akron, the gearboxes from Indianapolis, the engines from Flint and Saginaw. And we want cars to be built here," Navarro said.

Navarro compared Tesla to German car manufacturers specified as BMW and Mercedes — and thus accused Musk that his company was not American enough. He thus provided alleged reasons why Elon Musk rejects Trump's tariffs.

The attack on the billionaire met with the angry comments of the head of Tesla on platform X, among others:

  • “Navarro truly is an idiot. What he says is clearly false’;
  • "Tesla builds the most American cars. Navarro is dumber than a bag of bricks’;
  • ‘Peter Retardo’ (Retarded means disabled in English).

The dispute between the 2 Trump advisors illustrates the increasing gap between the industrial interests of American companies and the nationalist commercial policy of the Trump administration. In particular, large technology companies, specified as Tesla, which trust on global supply chains, see fresh tariffs as a threat to improvement and competitiveness.
