Day 771
Today, much is happening towards Kurachowe
At this point, the Russians increased the strength of their attacks towards the Ukrainian city of Kurachowe and launched a large-scale conflict trying to scope it.
After taking Marinka another logical step for the Russians she became Krasnohorivka as the settlement plays a key function in their offensive west for 2 crucial reasons
Firstly, Krasnohorivka has a long-term strategical importance for Ukrainians, as it is simply a parking space for possible future counterattacks on Russian positions and yet on Donetsk itself.
Secondly, in addition to allowing the Russians to consolidate their achievements by removing Ukrainian threat, Krasnohoriwka has a advanced tactical value for the Russians, as the business of the city would let them to approach the fields, partially cutting off deliveries to Ukrainian fortresses located further along the line behind Marinka and providing fire control on Ukrainian flanks.
Thus the Russians will effort to alleviate the difficulty of attacking these settlements, attacking Ukrainians simultaneously with the flank.
Attacking Krasnohorivka is not an easy task for Russians for many reasons
First, Krasnohorivka has been a front city since the beginning of the war in 2014
The Ukrainians have so strengthened their positions here and are well prepared for Russian attacks.
Secondly, since the Russians control only 2 directions of attack on the settlement, Ukrainians have a comparatively unchangeable and safe supply line and strengthening their forces.
Thirdly, if we look at the topographical map, we will see that by attacking from the south, the Russians gotta deal with a tiny valley in which the local river has turned into a swamp, forcing Russian armored assault groups to stick to 1 point of crossing that Ukrainians can easy monitor and halt utilizing drones, artillery, mines and PKP teams.
Moreover, rivers and swamps surrounding Krasnohorivka form funnels for Russian armored attacks, making them predictable and easy to master for Ukrainian defenders.
Finally, Ukrainians control a highly fortified position between Krasnohorivka and Heorhivka, as well as a defensive line behind the lakes, which complicates any Russian attempts to cut the city and take it into his pocket.
Ukrainian defence operation in Krasnohorivka focuses on the industrial territory and blocks behind it.
From there, Ukrainians can have a view of the full settlement and effectively coordinate their defences, as well as many windows and another openings offering a large number of shooting positions to be utilized by Ukrainians.
The Russians understood the importance of this territory and utilized artillery, tanks and raids with FAB-1500 bombs to destruct suspected Ukrainian shooting positions and reflection posts as part of preparations for Russian attacks.
The Russians were preparing for this attack and concentrating their forces in this area for over a month, and while local position battles brought small success to the Russians, the bombing of Ukrainian positions only intensified.
After Russian forces felt certain success of the larger storm operation of the settlement itself, they began 3 storm waves on the city
The first storm occurred early in the morning, but he could not even get close to the settlement because, as it turned out, the Ukrainians mined the approaches.
Ukrainian soldiers operating in the area stated that the Russian assault group could not even get off their infantry before it was destroyed.
However, the second and 3rd assault waves managed to break through and drop the infantry, which then penetrated the settlement from the south.
As dense fighting continued throughout the morning, Russian forces drove out the local Ukrainian garrison in the confederate territory of houses, but could not cross the railway line.
Russian forces then decided to dig and fortify the recently acquired positions.
Unfortunately for the Russians, as shortly as they began the first wave of assault, Ukrainian defenders in Krasnohorivka called for fast consequence forces, which at that minute were desperately needed to dissuade the Russians from the recently acquired base.
The fast consequence forces consisted of the 1st and 2nd Battalion of the already celebrated 3rd assault brigade
These soldiers are specially trained and equipped with the best quality equipment to deal with the most hard situations.
The 3rd assault brigade later released footage from counterattack operations in Krasnohorivka.
The recording shows the skills of those soldiers who decision through homes and attack Russians with gunfire, grenades, tanks and FPV drones.
