The parliamentary club of the ruling TISZA organization in Hungary proposed that the National Assembly vote on the election of the fresh country president on 11 August – according to a proposal published on Wednesday on the Parliament's website.
However, it is inactive unclear who will be Tisha's candidate.
According to the Constitution, Parliament must elect a fresh president within 30 days of the expiry of Tamas Sulyok's mandate, which occurred on 20 July. The Hungarian Parliament adopted an amendment to the Constitution on 13 July, which included the removal from the office of Sulyok, elected in 2024 by Fidesz by the erstwhile Prime Minister Viktor Orban. The amendment was signed by Sulyok himself and the duties of the head of state were temporarily taken over by the president of Parliament.
The candidate elected by Parliament may take office on the eighth day following the announcement of the results of the secret ballot.
