The Nicaraguan parliament has adopted a draft constitutional amendment proposed by president Daniel Ortega. It provides for the extension of the word of office of the head of state and the creation of the position of "co-presidents". According to the media, it is being prepared for Ortega and his wife, Vice president Rosario Murillo. The opposition claims that this is an effort to legalize "absolute power".
