On Wednesday, the on-call pair of F-16 Polish air force fighters made an effective interception, visual recognition and escorting of the Russian Federation aircraft that flew to the Baltic Sea, informed the Operations Command of the Types of Armed Forces on Friday.
DORSZ stressed in the communication on platform X that Polish fighters intercepted the Il-20 aircraft carrying out an exploratory mission in global airspace, without a complex flight plan and with the transponder disabled. It was stressed that there was no breach of Polish airspace.
At the same time, the Command indicated that aircraft interceptions "are not a demonstration of force", but are 1 of the basic tools for ensuring real control of the State's airspace. ‘Their aim is to identify rapidly objects that do not respond to air traffic services calls, decision without the required flight plan or violate the applicable rules’, added.
